A pap smear ascus results will have symptoms that mimic vaginitis but will show the presence of genital wart viruses. Besides cancer and infections, abnormalities in the cells may be caused by pregnancy problems, hormone imbalances, and other causes. Estimations show that up to 50% of such cases are not related to cancer or infections. If the condition does not disappear within 6 months, colposcopy and biopsy are done.
