Pap Sure
A pap sure test is performed, if a woman has abnormal vaginal discharge; if the diagnosis is difficult to make, cone biopsy is performed.
Nearly all cervical carcinomas are associated with HPV infections and it is not known if the virus is ever completely eliminated from the infected body. A cytology offers the opportunity to detect pre-cancerous and cancerous cervical conditions early while it can be easily treated and its progression stopped.

Unless approved testing such as HPV DNA results indicate 100% virus free, transmissibility must be assumed. The state of the immune system will determine its endurance. HPV may lie inactive for many years before reappearing. During suppressed stages, the chance of infection is remote; detection through standard testing is unlikely.
