Cervical Dysplasia, LEEP Procedure

This is a medical term referring to atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance. Squamous cells are flat cells that look like fish scales. The word “squamous” came from the Latin squama meaning "scale of a fish or serpent." When these cells are categorized as atypical, this means the appearance is not normal. An ASCUS cell may occasionally indicate cervical dysplasia and require a LEEP procedure.
