Some causes of abnormal pap smears could be a urinary infection along with the venereal wart virus. If an infection has been found, a treatment course is applied with the repeat check-up in 2-3 months. Recurrent tests are needed as the infection may hide cervical cancer. Some cells may appear atypical or precancerous with changes being less severe than when a woman has cancer.
