Atypical pap smear results will sometimes require cryosurgery, depending on severity, but won't help vaginitis. ASCUS does not require any treatment unless the condition moves to another, more severe class. As a rule, a woman is advised to take another Papanicolaou test in 4-6 months. Up to 50% of changes disappear by this time. If not, colposcopy or other exams may be performed.
